Incredible Horror Movie Facts - The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975 – Directed by Jim Sharman)

Oakley Court was the rather grand and gothic house in Berkshire, England, used as the main location for the film, both inside and out. It has been used in many other horror movies including The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1974), The Evil of Frankenstein (1964), Monster of Terror (1965), The Reptile (1966), The Plague of the Zombies (1966), And Now the Screaming Starts! (1973), The Brides of Dracula (1960), The Old Dark House (1963), Witchcraft (1964), Nightmare (1964), Vampyres (1974) and The House in Nightmare Park (1973).

The follow-up film to The Rocky Horror Picture Show was the critical and financial failure Shock Treatment (1981). Despite its negative reputation it has recently gone on to be staged at the King’s Head Theatre in London. Unlike the movie it seems to have been greeted with positive reviews from both critics and audiences.

A third movie was written by Richard O’Brien in the late 80’s/early 90’s called Revenge of the Old Queen and featured Riff Raff being sent back to Earth from the planet of Transsexual by Frank ‘N’ Furter’s mother to find her son. In a rather postmodern way the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show exists within the narrative and the characters make reference to it - believing that it was based on a true story. It was in development at Fox but never went into production and currently looks like it will never be made. Then again, I don’t think anyone foresaw Shock Treatment being produced for the London stage!
