The Camp Crystal Lake setting
synonymous with the Friday the 13th film series has never been
filmed at the same lake twice. The locations of the eerie lake are as follows:
Friday
the 13th (1980) – Sand Pond at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, Hardwick, New
Jersey, USA.
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) – North
Spectacle Pond, Kent, Connecticut.
Friday
the 13th Part III (1982) – Valuzet Movie Ranch. The “lake” for this movie
was specially created by the art department.
Friday
the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) – Zaca Lake, Santa Maria,
California.
Friday
the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) – no Jason Voorhees, so no
Camp Crystal Lake! The movie was shot in California.
Jason
Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) – Lake Rutledge at Camp
Daniel Morgan in Hard Labor Creek State Park, Rutledge, Georgia, USA.
Friday
the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) – Byrnes Lake, Baldwin
County, Alabama, USA.
Friday
the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) – Britannia
Beach, British Columbia, Canada.
Jason
Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) – The shots of the lake were archive
footage from the Paramount library and were actually taken from the original Friday the 13th movie. The
“lakeside” footage was filmed in Thousand Oaks, California, USA.
Jason X (2001) – Set mostly in
space therefore there was no lake. However there was a sequence set within a
holographic Camp Crystal Lake but this was shot in a studio using green screen
and a digitally created lake and background.
Freddy
vs. Jason
(2003) – Buntzen Lake, Anmore, British Columbia, Canada.
Friday the 13th (2009) – Lake Bastrop,
Bastrop County, Texas, USA – I was informed by director Marcus Nispel that
three lakes were used to make Camp Crystal Lake in the film. He said, “The
party house (Trent’s Summer cabin) was not on a lake but the owner built a dam
at a creek to create a sizeable pond where we shot smaller set-ups and tied it
all in with Lake Bastrop. Altogether three lakes were pieced together to create
Crystal Lake.”
